When “Whitney” came into my life I was just looking for a puppy to grow with and enjoy.  Having gone through several rescue dogs, all with various aggression problems, the last one put to sleep when he just about bit my hand off in the middle of the night, I begged my husband for a puppy that I could raise and be responsible for “how it turned out”.  I had a golden many years ago and went  through every channel possible to find the right dog.  I found Kim Cain and waited 10 months for my new pet.  When I picked up Whit, Kim told me that she was show quality but I told her I had no interest in anything other than a pet and would take her to obedience classes but that was it.  Well, obedience was going well and Lisa Kane my instructor told me she worked so well I should think about competition.  Lisa encouraged me to go to the 2003 National Specialty to watch the field events.  I did, this was the first show or competition of any kind I had ever seen and I was hooked!  To me watching dogs do what they are bred and trained to do is awesome.  I started training Whit in field when she was about 6-7 months old and Whit seemed to enjoy it so we kept at it.  When she was 8 months old I went hunting with her with friends, neither one of us had hunted before.  A goose was shot and down in the water, crippled but very much alive, when one of the experienced dogs in our party failed to retrieve the goose Whitney broke from my side and fought that goose all the way back to the shore; it was impressive to see and we found out how birdy she was.  Whit passed her JH 4 for 4 and then we went on to senior.  We both learned together and worked at obedience at the same time, she got her CD and CDX by her second birthday and her SH shortly after that taking it all in stride and so willing to work at whatever you put before her.  Since then we have gone on and stepped up to the master level and she passed her very first try, and now after learning much about the hunt test game (both her and I) we finished her MH this past fall.  Whit enjoys the hunting and hunt test game thoroughly but also loves the job of friend and companion, snuggling in bed with me. I am amazed by Whit’s intelligence and how proud she is when she figures out what you want.  We are now working on her UD title and are starting to try her in the conformation ring, which will be a long road because I will not send her out to be with a big name pro; I would miss her too much!   I am excited about this breeding, I think her and Pete complement each other well in not only in their physical strengths but in their working abilities too.  The only thing that is anyone’s guess is what color the pups will be!!!
